Research Dashboard

The Research Dashboard (page 170 in the book) is a canvas that clarifies research priorities and defines key questions, but also tracks progress, and ensures teams address critical knowledge gaps systematically.

How to fill it out?

You proceed through the template as follows:

  1. Start by categorizing the data you already have to be able to document what you already know for a fact.
  2. Clarify which data you will be able to gather. Mention data sources or research designs.
  3. Clarify which questions you seek to answer with the data you will gather.
  4. Clarify what you won’t be able to deliver. State the unknowns that will remain unknowns for the time being.

What is the benefit?

A research dashboard brings three key benefits:

  1. It forces teams to clearly define the research to be conducted
  2. It helps teams prioritize key assumptions and align on these priorities with senior stakeholders
  3. It allows teams to keep track of the research findings and facilitate periodic follow-up meetings with stakeholders
