A first step in domain immersion, is to map out your value chain, to decide on where you should immerse. The figure here shows an example of the value chain from the viewpoint of a typical empirical quant researcher in marketing. Pinpointing your key end customers of your research allows you to know who you should immerse with and learn more about (i.e., empathize).
